In a fresh issue of the book illustration art gallery here, I want to invite you to a quaint and lovely world of nature fairytales about Brambly Hedge. This classic series of eight illustrated children’s books, loved by several generations of young readers, was created by British author and illustrator Jill Barklem. The picturesque books tell the story of a community of mice living in the quiet, peaceful English countryside through intricate, sophisticated illustrations and unveil characters in an idyllic society.
The series features a whole tiny world within a hedgerow. The incredibly cute mouse characters live in homes built into tree stumps and along the banks of a stream. The community is affectionate, cheerful, and caring, and the books let the kids focus on themes of friendship, teamwork, and family. In this masterpiece of kidlit, children can read about the mice’s everyday life, celebrations, and seasonal activities, and dive into the atmosphere through the art of book illustration.
Let’s take a glance at some of Jill Barklem’s kidlit art together!
