Airy-Fairy Illustrations for Children’s Books by Kim Minji

Posts devoted to book illustrators seem to be more and more interesting for Bookmarin’s visitors, that’s why I hurry to add another name into the gallery. Let me introduce you Kim Minji, freelance artist-illustrator from South Korea.

On her official website Kim tells that she has loved drawing from childhood, especially when artworks visualized a story. The artists says that her biggest sources of inspiration are her daughter and the nature. Kim not only loves wind and sky but also does her best to transfer the feeling of the wind in her illustrations as she finds it a good way to give dynamics to the static images. Also she likes the theme of space, so her artworks often feature flights, sky, stars and planets. Kim illustrated such famous and widely-loved books as “The Wizard of Oz”, “The Little Prince”, “Peter Pan and Wendy” – illustrations to these particular books have been collected here today.

So, let’s enjoy the airy tenderness of book illustrations by Kim Minji.

Just click or tap on any illustration to see them in gallery mode.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others (L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz)

“You have plenty of courage, I am sure,” answered Oz. “All you need is confidence in yourself. There is no living thing that is not afraid when it faces danger. The true courage is in facing danger when you are afraid, and that kind of courage you have in plenty.” (L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz)

“If we walk far enough,” says Dorothy, “we shall sometime come to someplace.” (L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz)

No matter how dreary and grey our homes are, we people of flesh and blood would rather live there than in any other country, be it ever so beautiful. There is no place like home. (L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz)

“Can’t you give me brains?” asked the Scarecrow.
“You don’t need them. You are learning something every day. A baby has brains, but it doesn’t know much. Experience is the only thing that brings knowledge, and the longer you are on earth the more experience you are sure to get.” (L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz)

Peter Pan and Wendy by J. M. Barrie

All children, except one, grow up. (J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan)

All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust. (J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan)

Dreams do come true, if only we wish hard enough. You can have anything in life if you will sacrifice everything else for it. (J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan)

To live will be an awfully big adventure. (J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan)

“Do you know,” Peter asked, “why swallows build in the eaves of houses? It is to listen to the stories.” (J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan)

It is not in doing what you like, but in liking what you do that is the secret of happiness. (J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan)

You know that place between sleep and awake, that place where you still remember dreaming? That’s where I’ll always love you. That’s where I’ll be waiting. (J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan)

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye. (Antoine de Saint-Exupery, The Little Prince)

The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart. (Antoine de Saint-Exupery, The Little Prince)

“I wonder,” he said, “whether the stars are set alight in heaven so that one day each one of us may find his own again…” (Antoine de Saint-Exupery, The Little Prince)

You – you alone will have the stars as no one else has them…In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night…You – only you – will have stars that can laugh. (Antoine de Saint-Exupery, The Little Prince)

In Kim’s portfolio, there many more beautiful artworks, so keep up with the updates: soon, the gallery here will be broadened with her illustrations of the books “Alice in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll, “Thumbelina” and others.
