Today in the Bookmarin gallery of illustration masters, let me introduce the famous artist Christian Birmingham. The British illustrator, a graduate of the Exeter College of Art and Design (Exeter College of Art and Design), the winner of various international awards, is known all over the world today: books with his wonderful illustrations can be found in the school and home libraries for children in different countries. Christian has illustrated many classic fairy tales, such as “The Ugly Duckling” and “The Snow Queen,” as well as famous writing pieces for adults, such as “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens and “Wuthering Heights” by Emily Brontë, and also he works on the books by contemporary authors. The distinguishing features of his artistic style are not only attention to detail and careful processing of characters, but also the material he chose for the genre of illustration: his works are performed in pastel and seem to be filled to the brim with its tenderness, the play of light and warmth.
This time I have collected for you some of his illustrations for well-known and favorite children’s fairy tales: “Sleeping Beauty”, “The Snow Queen”, “The Little Mermaid”, “The Princess on the Pea,” and “The Ugly Duckling”. And soon, in the next posts, I will supplement this collection with new selections, as the master has plenty of them.
