It is known to everyone that childhood is a special time of human life, and everything that a kid sees, experiences and perceives will stay with him or her for the whole life. And adults are able to turn the world around kids into the fairy-tale. Everything that’s needed is to turn on the inner child for a while.
That is what was successfully done by the creators of the amazing bookstore in Beijing (China) with the prominent name Kid’s Republic Bookstore. For the several years, the photos taken in this stunning place and the impressions of its visitors buzzed around the world, and surely, I also couldn’t pass it up.
Beijing bookshop Kid’s Republic is really the wonderland. Design of the store is accomplished with application of bright colors and large amount of light background which adds the air and space and makes bright colors even brighter and deeper. The concept featuring all the rainbow colors, which was taken as the basis by designers from the studio SAKO architects, immediately sets the feeling of joy, diversity and strength given to the kids by the boundless world of children’s books.
Still, it’s not the only architects’ catch. What I was amazed with most of all is the free playing with forms and shapes and, at the first gaze, full absence of the traditional “systematic” placement of shelves and stacks typical for a bookshop interior. In fact, no doubt, everything to the tiniest details is the thorough play of light, color and shape, which still is able to set the feeling that common bounds and limits are absent. Here, you can not only choose and buy a book but also play, discover, explore the findings in the specially created snugs and even climb right up the bookshelves! What child wouldn’t want to get back there again? They even have special round sections-holes, well-lit and trimmed with bright fabric, where a kid can spend some time alone with a book.
Seeing the photos, even I, the adult, can easily forget that in front of my eyes there’s the space of commerce. It sooner looks like the magic world, hiding tons of secrets and encouraging little explorers to start new discoveries. It’s so cool that from the early childhood little visitors of this place will associate these discoveries and wonders with books.
